Sowing your precious seeds:
Dahlia & Zinnias:
Sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost, or outdoors once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.

Fill seed trays or pots with a quality seed raising mix.
-
Sow seeds approximately 5 mm deep and lightly cover with mix.
-
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, transplant them into individual pots.

Harden off young plants before planting into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Protect from slugs.
With plenty of sunshine, regular watering, and a little patience, your seedlings will reward you with unique, one of a kind blooms in their very first season
Seed Germination Information
At our farm, every effort is made to provide quality seed. Each seed batch is carefully hand-sorted and visually inspected before packaging to ensure only viable seed is offered for sale. As our seeds are produced in an open-pollinated garden, successful pollination is ultimately influenced by weather conditions, pollinator activity, and Mother Nature herself. For this reason, germination rates can vary between varieties, seasons, and even individual seed lots. To help maintain quality, seed stocks undergo random germination testing before being released for sale. However, no seed variety can be guaranteed to achieve a 100% germination rate. Germination success can also be affected by factors beyond our control, including sowing methods, growing conditions, temperature, moisture levels, and seed storage after purchase. If you believe your seeds have experienced an unusually low germination rate, please get in touch. We are committed to working with our customers to find a fair resolution and will assess concerns on a case-by-case basis. Thank you for understanding the wonderfully unpredictable nature of growing from seed.
